What Does A Writer Wear? Peak inside my wardrobe

Another way of expressing my creativity is through the clothes I wear.

My education in what to wear began as a teenager when my best friend Jenny took me shopping. We tried on outfits and since then, I've had a slight addiction to dressing up.

Magazines and television shows inspire me.

This year I revisited the 2007 - 2012 series of Gossip Girl, an American teen television drama series based on the books by Cecil Van Ziegesar, featuring a cast of scheming Upper East Siders. Place and fashion were characters too.

It brought me out of my pandemic tracksuit bottoms funk, back to a world of fabrics, colours and patterns.

Take a peak at my wardrobe.

I bought this jersey calf-length crêpe wrap dress which has a v-neck, wide tie belt at the waist and voluminous balloon sleeves from H&M. It makes me feel the whimsy of Austen and the seriousness of books
A cotton floral square neck top with an elasticated square neckline is an easy-to-wear wardrobe staple.
It pairs with red high waisted jeggings which was also from Marks and Spencer and it was available in a short length style which suits my petites frame. I don't know never whether I was looking and feeling more confident that day, but when I was walking along the canal in this outfit, a stranger told me I looked beautiful. That was a boost to my day.

My Fat Face Sussex jacket is a favourite. I love the  double entry hip pockets, zip-up chest pockets, a cord lined collar, a packaway hood and the adjustable waist. It is easy to throw on and I can see myself getting many years out of it.

The name of this Superdry top is Arizona peek a boo. It's flowy with a drawstring fastened collar and a peek a boo cut out along the neckline.
.
I've worn it with this H&M linen-blend light beige / leaf print calf-length A-line linen and viscose weave skirt. It has a high waist with covered elastication and buttons down the front. I feel like it embraces autumn, but also works in the spring and summer.

On an afternoon walk a few months ago, someone complimented my outfit. It gives me a buzz to know that a pairing worked, much like words come together on a page.

I can't get enough of my H&M leggings. I was wearing this cotton red / black checked one last week. It has a winter Christmas essence, though I throw this on all year around.
My dark grey / washed out jersey cotton biker leggings with seams and pleats on the legs have a youthful cool vibe. It's funny how clothes can affect your mood.
These clothes were all from affordable shops which provide free delivery and returns. I enjoy reading the customer reviews and looking at the photographs to guide me in my purchases. The images I have included in this blog post are from the retailer websites.

Some items were bought on sale.
A writer's budget doesn't go far. I'm not an Upper East side fashionista, only a Londoner who likes to play with words and clothes. I hope you've enjoyed taking a peak into my wardrobe.

EMB xoxo
