London 2022 - urban nature with birds, flowers, baby animals and Royal Family events

London 2022 – a year in review by Ellie M Blake

I created this video on YouTube about the year 2022. One of my goals was to develop my creativity skills in design, visual media, editing and production. I'm still much more comfortable with words, but I can see that I am making progress in my knowledge and experience in photography.

So this is a recap of 2022 ...

I came upon some pet dwarf rabbits early in the New Year in King Edward Memorial Park in Wapping. The winter felt extra cold. Thankfully, the daffodils arrived, heralding Spring. The birds were singing and the ducklings were swimming. The lambs wandered and grazed in the fields at Mudchute Farm. The Mile End baby geese on Regent’s canal were a comical bunch, restless and playful. Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum Jubilee military flypass was a wonderful sight, while lying in the grass in London Fields in Hackney. The summer was long with some exceptionally hot days in the high 30s, which demanded excessive consumption of ice-cream and homemade apple and rose ice lollies. The swans kept their cool and dallied in Limehouse Marina. The swifts returned and I managed to see their babies poking their heads out from the nests. The country mourned the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. The floral tributes in Green Park were a cacophony of floral scents and buzzing bees. There was a light Autumn breeze and the sun peeped out behind the clouds now and again. It was a magnificent coming together of creativity and beauty. Crowds gathered at Buckingham Palace where King Charles returned from his proclamation. The daisies were inspiring and the summer weather seemed to linger. Tower Bridge was lit up to commemorate the Queen and a flotilla of 150 boats, including the Royal row barge, Gloriana, sailed down the River Thames. I visited Stepney City Farm which was full of movie vibes and for a month I kept thinking about the Wizard of Oz. ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow,’ kept playing in my head. Glorious sunsets marked the end of the year. Snow fell in London just before Christmas, though I wasn’t there to see it, because I was on a new adventure.
